Remember if you are traveling overseas you will need a passport.  If you don't have one, allow several months to apply for one – you usually get your passport more quickly, but it is best to plan for the worst.

Travelers cheques are probably the safest way of carrying money overseas – most bigger businesses will honour them, and if they go missing then you can get them replaced quickly and easily.  A credit card is useful as a backup, but is not the cheapest way to spend in general. Read more
